Information
Hans Leo Hassler (1564–1612) was a German composer and organist who, following studies with Andrea Gabrieli in Venice, infused German traditions with new Italian directions. This dance tune belongs to one of his most well-known collections, Lustgarten neuer teutscher Gesäng, which also includes “Mein G’müt ist mir verwirret”, a melody used by J S Bach a century later in the chorale “O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden”.
Michaeli Early Music Series is edited by Mikael Paulsson, luteplayer and choral conductor, specialized in early music.
