”I min tolkning handlar dikten om kommunikationen mellan ett du och ett jag – en kommunikation som intimt hör ihop med relationerna mellan röst och ord och mellan tala och lyssna.
För mig innebär lyssnande att jag utöver att höra ord också noterar tonfall och kroppsspråk för att förstå vad du vill. Om jag väljer att inte lyssna sätter jag min förmåga till empati på spel, jag blir stum och världen blir fattigare.
Kompositionen börjar med några ljud – a-ah, n-ng, s – fragment som också är byggklossar till ord, ljudklossar som används och återanvänds till att bära olika betydelser i olika sammanhang. Samma tillvägagångssätt gäller också i musik där enkla element bygger själva kompositionen men också kan förändra musikens innebörd.
Verket ges här ut med engelsk text, men komponerades ursprungligen med svensk text och uruppfördes 2015 under titeln Röstfragment.” – Cecilia Franke

”In my interpretation, the poem Voice Fragments is about the communication between a you and a me – dialogues that are intimately tied to the relationship between voices and words or speaking and listening.
With regard to myself, listening also involves paying attention to the tone of voice and body language of the speaker, and not only the words. If I choose not to listen, I would be compromising my ability to empathize, which would cause me to forfeit my voice and also make the world a poorer place.
The piece begins with sounds – a-ah, n-ng, s –, fragments that are also building blocks for words, units used and reused in various combinations to convey meaning. The same principle applies to music, where simple elements are used to build compositions, and they can also alter the meaning of the piece.
This version is in English, but the original composition had Swedish lyrics and was first performed as Röstfragment in 2015.” – Cecilia Franke
