Information
This piece portrays a place where the conditions for life have shifted – perhaps through climate change or rural depopulation. Yet it also carries a vibrant hope that we can still do something about it. – Joel Lindberg
The first and last stanza of Joel Lindberg’s poem:
The north wind blows through the hollowed oaks
where voices fade and the ash now chokes
The sun retreats as the sea grows deep
waiting for an endless sleep
_ _ _
The sparrow hums of seeds that grow
of trees that rise and rivers flow
And her song endures through the longest night
for the sparrow sings of dawning light
